Week 7

August 17, 2016 by Morgan Mahony Leave a Comment

A lot has happened in the last  few days. This week I went to a few markets with Nathalie. On July 14th(Bastille Day) we went to a campground market and tried foie gras for the first time, tasted like tuna fish.  On la fete nationale a tragedy occurred in Nice. A terrorist ran over people during the firework show. Upon hearing this news from my parents, I was terrified for the safety of my friends and thankful I was 5 hours away in the countryside. Initially I was very shaken, scared, and upset. Its so scary knowing that this is so real and was so close. After hours of not knowing, every American checked in and it was very comforting to know that everyone was safe. My host family actually left the next morning to go to a city next to Nice to pick up their son. They weren’t very affected by the situation and didn’t react half as bad as I did which was very surprising to me. However, I was left alone in their house for the entire weekend. I cooked myself meals with very little food they left for me. I also managed to make them dinner for when they came home Sunday night. It was a delicious vegetable lasagna and I also made brown sugar brownies. The meal was one of the best things I have ever made and they told me I should quit food science and open up a restaurant. That was the biggest compliment ever coming from an old-school French woman. Otherwise this weekend I ate, watched a lot of tv, ran through the vineyards and saw the most beautiful sunsets on top of the hill. I also was left in charge of the vineyard and had to deal with their French customers which was extremely hard considering I don’t speak French. The first man spoke English. The second couple I had to use google translate with. Overall, I handled the situation pretty well considering.13892324_10205738115287220_8007207290870069491_n 13932910_10205738111487125_5670971542567937806_n 13895496_10205738115327221_3698102459243761753_n
