THIS. PLACE. IS. BEAUTIFUL. Cliche to say, but I absolutely am in love with this place. I’ve found myself already going beyond my comfort zone. Although in another country for the academic experience the amount of freedom we are granted to explore an area that we have never been too is overwhelming, but much appreciated. I’m usually not one to venture out too far, especially when unaware of my surroundings. Just within the first day, I’ve visited stores, markets, villages, seen beautiful backyard graffiti.
Although at times I feel like I am invading the personal lives of Athenians, I find it relaxing to be able to explore a world and culture at was previously unknown to me until now. I know that if it was not for this opportunity and would have probably never come here for as long as I will be here for.
We’ve not only seen beautiful historical ruins and landmarks, but are indulging and engaging in the Mediterranean lifestyle and diet through cooking classes and group meals, learning not only the nutritional values and where the majority of their food comes from, but also what it means to socialize over food and during the day and unplugging from technology to engage in personal conversation with one another. It has truly been a refreshing experience in only the short few days that I have been here.
