The first day of school in Iceland was a very unique experience. I realized at this point that Reykjavik University is a very different university, in the sense that they are very fieldwork-oriented in their curriculum. The president of Reykjavik University himself came to our class to personally welcome us and invite us to work with them in the field. They were just as excited to have us as we were excited to be there. We learned about different geothermal systems and how their designs optimize their efficiency, as well as their economic impacts. We proceeded to visit the Hellisheidi Geothermal Power Station in South Iceland. I was amazed by the size of the equipment used for these plants to be able to function and produce so much clean energy on such a big scale!
