June 29, 2018 by Dianne Le Leave a Comment

Tomorrow is our last day in Germany together, as our Landscape Architecture in Germany program wraps to a close. My time here in Oaxaca is coming to an end. Me and my other classmates are rushing to stores to buy last minute gifts. I have to admit the feeling is bittersweet. On the one hand, I miss home and I am ready to be with my family again. But on the other hand, I […]

The Zapotec basically flattened out the top of an entire mountain to create this civilization (cool right!?). I also found the way they structured buildings interesting. From […]

Alebrijes

June 27, 2018 by Darah Bagby-Prosser Leave a Comment

Saturday, my group went to visit the Ecolalebrije Project in Arrazola. They are a group of people who make alebrijes. Alebrijes are wood carvings that are decorated with bright colors and intricate details. They make the carvings out of Copal trees because the wood is soft. What Is This? Who Are They?

This blog is home to the thoughts and images of Rutgers University students as they travel the world this summer. Each student received a scholarship to experience the sciences beyond their New Jersey borders. In addition to the research and/or coursework, they will keep a journal or blog. Their thoughts are recorded once or twice a week over the duration of their international experience.

For more information about this scholarship, please visit the School of Environmental and Biological Sciences International Programs page at Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey.
