Upon packing our belongings up and leaving the hostel set in Athens, I started to feel a little sentimental. A week in Athens was exhausting to say the least, however, it was where we called home for our entire trip thus far. Will any place in Greece live up to the city of Athens?
ANSWER: 100% YES. The beachfront city of Nafplio is, to this day, the most beautiful place I have ever been in the world. Planning your next vacation? Book a flight to Nafplio. Nothing has come closer to the definition of paradise than this city.
On top of the astounding views were one of a kind experiences. We toured an olive oil factory home to an olive tree over two thousand years old, went wine tasting in a vineyard set between the mountains, hiked the perimeter of Nafplio with the Mediterranean just to our right, and all the while, we absorbed valuable information about the Greek lifestyle. Through this type of experiential learning unique to the course, material is both enjoyable and simpler to retain. At times like this I laugh at the image of myself half asleep in Hickman hall trying to will myself to take notes in class. If it were difficult then, I cannot imagine how hard it will be after actually experiencing lessons abroad. This way of learning is, in my eyes, far superior to being lectured at. You can forget lessons but cannot forget true experiences. This trip is filled with them.
