Bonsoir from France!!
Day 1 was amazing. Cluny is so beautiful and spectacular!! The lifestyle and environment here are different than what we are used to in the States. It is very relaxing here and the locals are very nice! Classes are so interesting and fun. Yesterday, we got to taste different kinds of fresh cheese and wine. I was amazed by the variety of local wines and cheeses. We visited one of the local shop stores in the town to learn the etiquette of wine tasting which, surprisingly, has several different steps and techniques. The store manager who is an expert in wine marketing and tasting taught us, step by step, the process of wine tasting (Wine Tasting 101)! We tasted two kinds of white wines and the other two red wines. Amazingly, spotting the differences between each kind of wine and the reasons behind these differences was not as easy as I expected. I would never forget this amazing experience and I cannot wait for all field trips to apply these techniques that I enjoyed learning!
Day 2 was spectacular!!!!
We visited the cheese tower where the people of Cluny used to store cheese in the medieval ages in the Abbey of Cluny. The Abbey of Cluny is a Benedictine monastery that was built between the 5th – 13th century. Great monuments and astonishing historical buildings!! Two churches and a huge one in between forming the sign of a cross were built inside the walls of the abbey thousands of years ago. The beauty and the creativity in the detailed architecture structures filled me with wonder and appreciation of the treasures we have. It is also amazing how the people of Cluny are using many of these buildings in the present day. From the touristic sites to the public theater, the town’s library and spaces for the students of the “Arts et Métiers Paristech” University use. I was astonished by the beauty of the abbey and its historical and cultural importance for the people of Cluny back in the day till now.
