Saying Goodbye

June 28, 2019 by Karina Bahshiyants Leave a Comment

Today was our last day volunteering at the Mahasawat Health Promotion Clinic. Our day began very early as usual, and we did rotations with the nurse, doctor, and pharmacist in the morning until noon. It still amazes me how much the communities in these villages rely on this clinic for getting all the treatment they need. Everything was running smoothly and we finished on time to eat lunch together. The clinic volunteers and leaders made their last dishes for us and also treated us to some fruit. After lunch our group practiced one of the 4 national Thai dances in order to surprise the other group. The clinic workers helped us perfect the dance, dress up, did our hair, and makeup. It was very bittersweet to leave such an incredible group of people and I will forever cherish everything I was able to experience and learn through them. Learning about Thai culture and way of life has really helped me see the world through a different perspective. Not only do I feel like a global citizen, but I also feel like this trip forced me to get out of my shell and to accept myself for who I am. After saying our goodbyes, Dr. Robson treated all of us to a spa and a drink. It was really nice to spend the last night relaxing all together before packing for our long flight back home.
