Today, we had to get up really early. We were going to go back to runaway creek to go mist netting. Mist netting is something that is done to capture birds. The bird handled with care and its age, sex, wing span and other details recorded. They place a band on the birds leg in order to keep track of the bird. If something happens to the bird and its found or the bird is re-caught, they can see how far the bird traveled. Moreover, we came back from mist netting and had lunch. Then we went to the zoo and did a bone lab. At the bone lab we learned about the bones of a jaguar and were able to put it back together. The next day, we went back to the zoo and we did a necropsy of a peccary. It was smelly and unforgettable. We had to do enrichment for an animal at the zoo and I chose a jaguarundi who funny enough, is not related to a jaguar. While people were still with the peccary, some went to finish their enrichment. Enrichment is when you provide a stimulus for an animal. I am glad for the experience but I was so glad to be out of that room. I am so happy this program has something new planned every day.
