Day 6

August 3, 2019 by Sarah Malarkey Leave a Comment

This was one of my favorite days since we visited an orchid farm, coconut farm, and an alternative medicine clinic. The orchid farm was strikingly beautiful. We learned the difference of all the different types of orchids, and the conditions that are needed for them to grow. The orchids are used in Buddhist temples as offerings. The owner of the farm taught us how to wrap the flowers to prep them for sale. Then we headed to the coconut farm. One of the first thoughts that came to me was how bad the working conditions must be and what are common diseases that these workers might have. The workers are usually almost chest deep in water all day. The workers said they catch about 7,000 coconuts per day with about 9 workers.

We then visited the alternative medicine clinic and were able to receive a tour of the facility and talk to the doctors. The doctor talked about acupuncture relies heavily on Chinese medicine and can be very effective for those who might suffer from migraines and other chronic pain. Our day ended with a lovely traditional Thai massage.
