Belize Reflection Post

Although my study abroad trip was relatively brief, it was one of the most amazing experiences I have ever had. I can’t think of anywhere else I would have been able to get that much hands on experience working with all different types of animals, large and small. Practicing sutures on bananas and chicken breasts […]

We started Wednesday off bright and early, leaving at 5:00am to make our way to a dairy farm! We were able to see the milking process, and they showed us a quick test they use to check for mastitis, which is an infection of the udder. It was cool to see the cows milked using […]

Day 6 in Belize was a busy one. We started the day off at a farm, giving cows dewormer and vitamins. Cows are really hard to restrain, but this farm had a cattle chute that did all of the work for us. Once we were done with the cows, we castrated a horse on that […]

My trip to Belize had a bit of a rocky start after my first flight got delayed, I switched flights last minute in order catch my connecting flight in Miami, and then I found out that my luggage didn’t make it to Belize with me. Nonetheless, the long day was made a little better when […]

T-5 Days!

June 4, 2018 by Alison Lawlor Leave a Comment

I am both anxious and excited for my upcoming trip to Belize! I feel like there is so much to do and so much to pack, and so far I feel a little unprepared. I still have to buy some more scrubs, get myself a stethoscope, and make sure all my money and paperwork is […]

About Alison Lawlor

Photo of Alison Lawlor.

Hi, my name is Alison Lawlor, and I am a rising senior at Rutgers University, majoring in Animal Science, Pre-Vet & Research Option with a minor in Psychology. I spend most of my time at Rutgers Farm, working as an animal care worker, a teaching assistant for the swine and small ruminant practicum classes, and doing research in Dr. Katz's lab. Next year I will be working on my own research project through the G.H. Cook Scholars Program. I also work as a lifeguard through Rutgers Recreation, and will be starting work this summer as a vet tech/assistant at Prospect Ridge Veterinary Hospital. I am beyond excited that I will be spending two weeks in June studying abroad in Belize taking the "Large Animal Veterinary Practice in the Tropics" class, and I can't wait to share my journey with you. (:
