Post Departure Post

January 16, 2020 by Francesca Buchalski Leave a Comment

Hello hello! I’m exhausted. Really exhausted. I apologize that this post reflects that exhaustion. It’s a bit all over the place. Belize was absolutely incredible, and coming home was definitely an adjustment. There are so many people in New Jersey. So many people! And so much traffic! Granted, I have never before appreciated just how […]

Days 14: Farewell, Belize

January 12, 2020 by Francesca Buchalski Leave a Comment

Hello hello! Day 14 Today was our last full day in Belize, but we all made the most of it. After our cow-palpating, pig-wrangling day yesterday, we were all pretty wiped out, but we still had a great time on our last day. I don’t think I’ve talked about our breakfasts yet, but I’ve got […]

Day 13: Going out with a Bang

January 12, 2020 by Francesca Buchalski Leave a Comment

Hello hello! You’ll notice that this is my first post that only centers on one day, and there’s a very good reason behind it! This was our last day of hands on veterinary experience, as tomorrow we will be giving our final presentations, taking our exam, and having our “alumni meeting”…which is a surprise? I […]

Days 10-12: Return to the Farms

January 12, 2020 by Francesca Buchalski Leave a Comment

Hello hello! These past few days, we’ve been experiencing first hand the life of a mobile veterinarian in Belize. We had some *exciting* drives up extremely steep dirt roads to beautiful hidden-away farms. Day 10 We started off our day with physical exams, vaccinations, and deworming for a herd of about fifteen horses. This was […]

Days 7-9: Pet Clinics in Plascencia

January 12, 2020 by Francesca Buchalski Leave a Comment

Hello hello! So sorry for the delay, between the spotty Wifi and fifteen-plus hour days, I haven’t had much of a chance to post! Not to worry though, I was very vigilant about taking notes/journaling on this trip. Usually I am TERRIBLE at keeping up with journaling, but I’m proud to say that was not […]

Getting to Work: Days 4-6

January 3, 2020 by Francesca Buchalski Leave a Comment

Hello hello! I can officially confirm that everyone I’ve talked to about this trip is right; words can’t do it justice, but I’m going to give it my best college try! Day 4: Today was New-Year’s Eve, but that didn’t slow us down! Today was our first time actually assisting in the veterinary clinic. After […]

About Francesca Buchalski

Photo of Francesca Buchalski.

Hi, I’m Francesca, a sophomore majoring in Animal Science with the pre-veterinary track. I’ve had a passion for animals since I was a little girl, and as I’ve grown, so has my passion! I’ve always been especially excited about the science behind animals and the environment, and to this day I love exploring and learning about the natural world. At SEBS, I’m trying to take advantage of every hands-on opportunity I can get my hands on—pun very much intended! I thoroughly enjoy participating in equine research with the Rutgers Equine Science Center, and I’m so excited to (hopefully) be taking my first Animal Practicum course this coming spring semester. I am also an avid equestrian, and have been riding horses for over eleven years. When I’m not studying or helping out at the Equine Science Center, you can usually find me training my off-the-track-Thoroughbred, Atlas. Between school and riding, I’m usually very busy, but when I can find some down-time, I like to fill it with creative, relaxing activities—singing, writing, and birdwatching, just to name a few.
