July 6: Goodbye Germany

July 8, 2019 by Leonela Smith Leave a Comment

The day to leave Germany finally arrived, I still can’t believe it was time to go home because I honestly wanted to stay a bit longer even though I missed my home. This past five weeks, I had traveled to Berlin, Essen, Bochum, Dortmund, Gelsenkirchen, Duisburg, Bottrop, and Düsseldorf. Words can not explain how much […]

As the last few days of Germany are coming to an end it means, I have to enjoy it as much as I can because I don’t know when will I get another chance to come back. Today started great and ended utterly different than I would have thought. Today’s site was the Duisburg Nord […]

Yesterday we went to Grugapark, which is a botanical garden and park. This botanical garden was different than the botanical garden that we had visited in Berlin. This time this botanical garden had separate areas for various purposes, and it did not display the names of the plant species. The garden was amazing in its […]

July 1, 2019 by Leonela Smith Leave a Comment

It was a fantastic day on Saturday, June 29, and the reason for it was because we visited another castle called Benrath Castle. For the majority of the trip every time we went to visit a palace or castle I was blown away from the outside of the castle before even entering the space, but […]

On Tuesday, June 25, we went to visit Westpark in Bochum to take sound samples and notes about vegetations and our impressions of the park. We took sound samples in order to determined where we could put sound barriers in the park to block noise pollutions. We also took notes of the vegetation in the […]

June 22: E Zeche Zollverein

July 1, 2019 by Leonela Smith Leave a Comment

On Saturday, June 22, we went to visit a coal mine that used to be active back then. One thing for sure that I got from this site visit was learning how the coal was produced and cleaned. We had a guided tour, and we saw how the workers would mine underground, and when they […]

About Leonela Smith

Photo of Leonela Smith.

At a young age, I used to live in the Dominican Republic. When I was ten, I moved to Penns Grove, New Jersey and was able to learn English in a year. During my high school years, I was involved in many leading organizations. I was a Peer Leader, Captain of the Lady Red Devils basketball team and Vice President of the National Honor Society. Since a very young age, my goal has been to graduate from college with a Bachelors in Landscape Architecture. Now as a second-year LA student I have become more involved with the Rutgers community by joining clubs like the Landscape Architecture club, becoming Treasurer of the COSINE club and becoming a peer mentor for SEBS EOF. This year I have been given the opportunity to study abroad to Germany with the Landscape Architecture department which I am hoping to immerse myself in the new culture.
