Belize will be missed

July 15, 2019 by Letticia Perez Leave a Comment

When I first arrived at Belize, I wanted to run away back to New Jersey. I was so uncomfortable and I felt so out of place. But as the days progressed I noticed a change in myself. I was actually not looking forward to going home. I could not get over leaving when I was […]

Belize is my second home

July 15, 2019 by Letticia Perez Leave a Comment

This is our last day and I will truly miss it. We vaccinated cows for black leg, rabies and gave them dewormer and vitamins. Giving vaccinations to cows was different than giving vaccinations to sheep and goats. With cows, we had to stab them with the needle. With sheep and goat, we have to give […]

Helping Dr. T

This Saturday was the clinic. Some of the people here were in the last course with me and already did a clinic day. I couldn’t do it the last time because I was so burnt from the beach the day before, my whole body was swollen. I couldn’t move and it was hard to sleep. […]

This was a fun day, we went to whistling ducks farm and learned about horses. We did a physical exam on one horse and each person chose a partner to help them. My partner was Mannon and she was the best. She knew a lot about horses and their anatomy. A few of the things […]

Large Animal has an AC yay!

July 15, 2019 by Letticia Perez Leave a Comment

When I went to the clinic this morning, I knew we were going to have a talk from the BAHA representative. He was kind and was interested in answering any questions. After that we all had lunch and then we learned how to suture pieces of chicken. I thought I had the hang of it […]

Mist netting

July 15, 2019 by Letticia Perez Leave a Comment

Today, we had to get up really early. We were going to go back to runaway creek to go mist netting. Mist netting is something that is done to capture birds. The bird handled with care and its age, sex, wing span and other details recorded. They place a band on the birds leg in […]

About Letticia Perez

Photo of Letticia Perez.

My name is Letticia Perez. I graduated from Hudson County Community College with an associate in Biology. Currently, I am a Rutgers student majoring in Pre-veterinary medicine. If I’m not hitting the books I am working at Mad Science as a lead scientist. I teach children from ages 4-14 basic science concepts and perform in-class science experiments. Occasionally, I pet sit dogs, cats, bunnies, even hamsters. I am CPR and AED certified for adults, children and infants. I also have a pet aid certification. During my downtime I volunteer for my local TNR program and the community cat shelter. I assist in adoptions and love to foster older cats in need. My goal is to become a veterinarian and open a practice in an urban community that offers low cost vet care.
