From South Africa to New Jersey

August 8, 2019 by Rebecca Hagelberg Leave a Comment

Being back in the US is surreal. It feels like I have been gone a century and also like I never left. Being in South Africa already feels like a dream I once had. I have already shared with you all the experiences that I had with the program I went with, but there are […]

Week Two in South Africa: It Isn’t Almost Over…Is it?

August 8, 2019 by Rebecca Hagelberg Leave a Comment

Week Two in South Africa was bittersweet. I could feel that time was flying by too quickly and I would be on a plane home before I knew it. Day 9, Wednesday: If you knew me, you’d know how much I am not a fan of snakes. So imagine what happened when a client brought […]

Week One in South Africa: How Did I Get Here?!

Pre-Departure: Ready for South Africa!

I cannot believe that I will be in South Africa at this exact time next week! It has been tedious to prepare and almost overwhelming to think about. I have too many feelings about the trip to consider. I have barely ever been on an airplane and have definitely never left the country. I have […]

About Rebecca Hagelberg

Photo of Rebecca Hagelberg.

My name is Becky and I am currently studying Biological Sciences at Rutgers to pursue a career as a veterinarian! I am an avid animal lover with two dogs and two cats at home. I currently work in a vet clinic as a veterinary technician and absolutely love going to work on the weekends. I hold an associates degree in Equine Studies from SUNY Cobleskill as well. Besides work and school, I enjoy playing video games and spending time with my family. My most meaningful time at Rutgers consisted of fostering and training service dogs for Merlin’s Kids. I am beyond excited for my trip to Africa to experience a type of veterinary work that I have never seen before. I know that I will return home with a better understanding of different cultures, conservation, and the many paths I can choose to take in my life.
