How the Streets Work for the People

September 1, 2016 by Samantha Dreher Leave a Comment

I was questioning before how the streets were home for the people who dwell in them, and I definitely see how now. In the streets, people work for their work. They will come to you. And it’s fruitful that way. In Brazil, people are constantly budgeting, so they do not want to spend their money […]

Rio de Janeiro Botanical Garden

September 1, 2016 by Samantha Dreher Leave a Comment

The botanical garden in Rio de Janeiro is incredibly beautiful and designed to fit into the edge of the Tijuca Forest. And, in the usual comforting way, I could see the Christ throughout my visit to it. Not only that, but the walking trail to the Christ starts in the garden and works its way […]

September 1, 2016 by Samantha Dreher Leave a Comment

Before my dad took us to see Sitio Roberto Burle Marx, we did a little exploration of the surrounding area there. The city it’s in is Barra de Guaratiba, which is in Rio de Janeiro state, but just out of Rio de Janeiro city. Just below a morro (hill) that we found on our way, luck […]

Roberto Burle Marx, in Sitio

August 31, 2016 by Samantha Dreher Leave a Comment

Victoria and I got a great opportunity to see the estate of Roberto Burle Marx, Brazil’s most famous landscape architect. About Samantha Dreher

Photo of Samantha Dreher.

My name is Samantha Dreher and I am a Brazilian born senior in the School of Environmental and Biological Sciences. I am double majoring in Environmental Planning and Landscape Architecture. I want to go abroad to learn from the success of urban culture in Brazil, and what the role of design is in that success. I am hoping to be part of a movement that completely changes the way we look at urban design for people and their environment.
