Day 13

August 3, 2019 by Sarah Malarkey Leave a Comment

We ended our last day in Bangkok with a presentation to our hospital about our experiences in Thailand. We talked about the prominent healthcare issues that we saw such as poor dental health, obesity, diabetes, stroke, and motorcycle accidents. We thanked our worksite for being so generous and taking care us throughout our entire trip. […]

Day 12

Our worksite gave us a traditional Thai farewell by making us a bunch of signature Thai dishes. One of the employees stayed up until 2 AM cooking us all the food, and all her hard worked showed. The display and plating of the food was beautiful, and the food tasted delicious. The employees taught us […]

Day 11

Again, it was emphasized how prominent motorcycle accidents are in Thailand, and how debilitating they can be. We went to the local school to give a physical exam to the children. We measured their height and weight, gave them […]

Day 8-9

We had an amazing time in Chiang Mai! It was a nice (and much needed) change of pace. Chiang Mai is definitely less chaotic than Bangkok, and certainly has way more temples. It was also brutally hot while we were there. The weather app said it was 100 degrees Fahrenheit but felt like 113. However, […]

Day 7

August 3, 2019 by Sarah Malarkey Leave a Comment

We visited Ayutthaya which was the capital of the Kingdom of Siam before the Burmese burned it down. It is very beautiful even though not much is left behind. We were able to buy some snacks and souvenirs in the local market before we left. Afterwards, we headed back to the hotel, and majority of […]

What Is This? Who Are They?

This blog is home to the thoughts and images of Rutgers University students as they travel the world this summer. Each student received a scholarship to experience the sciences beyond their New Jersey borders. In addition to the research and/or coursework, they will keep a journal or blog. Their thoughts are recorded once or twice a week over the duration of their international experience.

For more information about this scholarship, please visit the School of Environmental and Biological Sciences International Programs page at Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey.
