Post Departure – Route of Industrial Heritage

July 2, 2019 by Anna Erickson 1 Comment

I can definitely say with certainty that my time in the Ruhrgebiet has been a fun and enriching experience. To recap my mental state over the journey I’m making a list of 5 ‘Expected’s and the unexpected results in order to keep track of my thoughts going in and coming out of it. The Expecteds: […]

Ruhrgebiet – From West to East (Gelsenkirchen – Unna 2 of 2)

June 27, 2019 by Anna Erickson Leave a Comment

Because I’ve been staying in Essen and it would be too long of a post to run from the Rhine all the way to Unna, I’ve split up my pictures by what’s located west of Essen and what’s located east. So this post is basically between Gelsenkirchen and Unna, but the Metchtenberg landscape park runs […]

New trails are developing all the […]

This blog post is brought to you by a rainy day in which I went out, got off the train, and started biking towards the place I wanted to go until I realized it was raining MUCH harder than I thought it would be. Then all of a sudden the chain of the bicycle I […]

A Sense of Time

June 7, 2019 by Anna Erickson Leave a Comment

I’ve since been exploring the west portion of the region near the Rhine River, but I’m backed up on blog posts. Shortly before landing I read an excerpt from JB Jackson’s ‘A Sense of Place, A Sense of Time’ about the American landscape and use of the phrase ‘a sense of place’. Despite a common […]

What Is This? Who Are They?

This blog is home to the thoughts and images of Rutgers University students as they travel the world this summer. Each student received a scholarship to experience the sciences beyond their New Jersey borders. In addition to the research and/or coursework, they will keep a journal or blog. Their thoughts are recorded once or twice a week over the duration of their international experience.

For more information about this scholarship, please visit the School of Environmental and Biological Sciences International Programs page at Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey.
